# Gemini Nano Banana 2.1 generally available (GA)

The update improves text rendering and character consistency, while the previous model shuts down on October 29, 2026.

Image generation and conversational editing in [Google Gemini](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/gemini>) get an updated model, gemini-nano-banana-2.1. It succeeds Nano Banana 2 while maintaining Flash-level speed and cost efficiency, according to the [release announcement](<https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/changelog>).

## Image quality and editing

Google reports significant improvements in visual quality, prompt adherence and text rendering. The update also improves character consistency across multiple turns of conversational editing.

## Wide and panoramic images

Nano Banana 2.1 supports wide and panoramic aspect ratios of 1:4, 4:1, 1:8 and 8:1 across 1K, 2K and 4K resolutions.

## Migration deadline

The previous Nano Banana 2 model, gemini-3.1-flash-image, is deprecated and will shut down on **October 29, 2026**. Google directs users to migrate to gemini-nano-banana-2.1.
