# Google AI Studio's managed agents get a free tier and budgets

By Steven Van · 2026-07-16

Free-tier runs use unbilled API keys, a max\_total\_tokens cap halts interactions safely, and cron-scheduled triggers reuse the same persistent sandbox.

The Gemini API's [Google AI Studio](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/google-ai-studio>) Managed Agents now run on a free tier, using an API key from a project without billing attached, though interactions are capped at free rate limits.

- A new max\_total\_tokens budget guardrail stops an interaction safely once the limit is hit, marking it incomplete so it can resume where it left off.

- Scheduled triggers bind an agent, environment, prompt, and cron schedule into a persistent resource.

- Each scheduled run reuses the same sandbox, so files persist between runs.
