# Turn notifications into code with GitHub Copilot in Teams

Teams users can @mention GitHub to turn an issue into a pull request, and the legacy GitHub app is retired on November 16.

The [GitHub](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/github>) app in Microsoft Teams now combines notifications with Copilot. Notifications arrive in channels, group chats, or private chats, and you can @mention GitHub there to act on them. The app was previously called GitHub notifications, per the [original announcement](<https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-23-turn-notifications-into-code-with-github-copilot-in-teams>).

## From issue notification to pull request

GitHub describes the workflow in three steps:

- **Get notified:** a bug report arrives in Teams.

- **Take action:** @github investigates the issue, fixes the bug, and creates a pull request.

- **Review and ship:** the team reviews, tests, and merges the fix.

## Getting started

To use Copilot in Teams, mention @GitHub in the consolidated app and follow the prompts to connect your GitHub account and select a repository.

If GitHub notifications is already installed, update it to the latest version. Existing notification capabilities will continue to work.

## Legacy app retirement

The legacy GitHub app will be renamed "GitHub (deprecated)" and retired on **November 16**. Anyone using it needs to install the consolidated GitHub app to keep using Copilot in Teams.
