Local sandboxing is generally available at no extra cost in Copilot CLI, the Copilot app, and VS Code sessions using Agent Host.

Local sandboxing is now generally available in [GitHub](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/github>) Copilot CLI, the Copilot app, and VS Code sessions using Agent Host. Included at no extra cost, it lets users limit agents’ access to files, networks, and credentials.

## Enable and configure local sandboxing

Local sandboxing is off by default. In Copilot CLI, run /sandbox enable to turn it on for the current and future sessions, until it is disabled. In the Copilot app, project settings set the default for new local repository and working tree sessions, while active sessions can be changed separately. Settings in the CLI and app are independent.

Both surfaces offer controls for filesystem paths, network access, and Git and GitHub CLI credentials. The CLI adds controls for sandboxing local MCP and language servers, macOS keychain access, and per-command exceptions. Enterprises can require sandboxing and enforce its configuration through managed settings.

## Operating system isolation

Local sandboxing restricts processes on the user’s machine rather than running commands in a separate virtual machine or container. The CLI’s built-in file tools check the configured policy themselves on a best-effort basis because their operations are outside the operating system sandbox.

Support covers macOS, Linux, and recent Windows 11 builds, with requirements and restrictions varying by platform. GitHub specifies macOS 15 or later and bubblewrap 0.5.0 or later on Linux, with additional dependencies for outbound traffic. The [sandboxing documentation](<https://docs.github.com/copilot/concepts/security-governance-and-network-settings/about-cloud-and-local-sandboxes>) details the platform requirements and controls.

## Models, accounts, and session management

- Claude Haiku 5.5 is available to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise users.

- The Copilot app now supports separate GitHub accounts for the Copilot license and repository access, including an enterprise-provided license paired with another repository account.

- Copilot CLI’s /model command discovers supported models from a running local Ollama instance alongside configured models and Copilot’s cloud models.

- In VS Code 1.141, the Agents window can arrange sessions side by side in a grid. Open worktree cleanup in chat shows how much disk space inactive session worktrees use and lets users choose which to remove.
