# GitHub Actions: macOS 14 runner image retirement

By Steven Van · 2026-10-01

Jobs on macos-14, macos-14-large and macos-14-xlarge will fail during eight brownout windows in October before the image is removed on November 2.

The macOS 14 runner image in [GitHub](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/github>) Actions [will be retired on November 2, 2026](<https://github.com/actions/runner-images>). The retired labels are macos-14, macos-14-large and macos-14-xlarge.

Until then, jobs on those labels will fail on purpose during scheduled brownouts, each running from 14:00 UTC to 00:00 UTC the next day:

- October 5 to 6

- October 12 to 13

- October 16 to 17

- October 19 to 20

- October 23 to 24

- October 26 to 27

- October 29 to 30

- October 30 to 31

GitHub may also reduce macOS 14 runner capacity before retirement, which could mean longer queue times for jobs still using these labels.

Workflows should move to one of these macOS arm64 labels: macos-latest (macos-26), macos-15, macos-latest-xlarge (macos-26-xlarge) or macos-15-xlarge. Questions can go to GitHub Support.
