# Actions retention now covers checks, runs, and statuses

By Steven Van · 2026-10-01

Checks, runs and statuses from Actions and third-party apps are now deleted on the retention schedule, with public repositories capped at 90 days.

Checks, workflow runs and statuses now fall under the same [GitHub](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/github>) Actions retention setting as artifacts and logs. [The change](<https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-01-actions-retention-now-covers-checks-runs-and-statuses>) was previously announced and now applies on github.com.

Records that exceed the retention period set for an enterprise, organization or repository are cleaned up automatically. This covers checks and statuses created by GitHub Actions and by third-party applications. In the UI, the setting is labeled "Check, workflow run, status, artifact and log retention".

- Repository retention remains subject to organization and enterprise caps.

- The maximum retention for public repositories is **90 days**.

- Changing the setting won't restore data that was previously removed.

GitHub advises reviewing or updating the artifact and log retention period for each repository.
