# Standalone image generation

By Steven Van · 2026-08-04

Gamma's API and MCP server can now generate a single on-brand image from a prompt, with optional reference images, saved to the workspace media library.

Gamma's API can now generate a single image from a prompt, separate from building a full gamma. POST /images creates an on-brand image and accepts optional reference images. Because the request is asynchronous, the result is retrieved by polling GET /images/{id}.

## Saved to the media library

Generated images are saved to the workspace media library. An image can be archived with POST /images/media/{savedMediaId}/archive.

## MCP tools

The same workflow is available through MCP with two tools: generate\_image and get\_image\_generation\_status.

The change is listed in the [Gamma API changelog](<https://developers.gamma.app/reference/changelog#standalone-image-generation>), and [Gamma](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/gamma>) does not state plan or credit requirements for it.

Gamma

AI generates presentations, documents, and webpages from a prompt — edit in a visual editor, embed videos and charts, then share as a link.
