# Firecrawl gives ChatGPT and Claude a free US law index

By Steven Van · 2026-10-22

Firecrawl’s free Government & Legal Index lets ChatGPT and Claude search 30M+ US government pages, from statutes and case law to city codes, with cited sources.

[Firecrawl](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/firecrawl>) launched its free Government & Legal Index on October 22, 2026. It gives AI agents in [ChatGPT](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/chatgpt>) and [Claude](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/claude>) more than 30 million US government pages, from federal statutes and court opinions to city codes and permits, so answers can quote the law they rely on.

The index covers federal, state, county and city sources, including regulations, bills, tax forms, agency guidance, ordinances and zoning codes. Every result links to and quotes its source, and through Firecrawl Alexandria it also lists the statutes and cases that source cites, so an assistant can trace an answer back to the controlling authority.

Searching the index uses no credits. You add the Firecrawl connector in Claude or the Firecrawl plugin in ChatGPT with a free account, and developers can call it through the API, MCP server, CLI or SDKs. It covers US law only, and Firecrawl says it is not legal advice.
