# Figma Make can now build on an existing codebase

By Steven Van · 2026-06-06

Import a project into Figma Make for targeted edits, with branching and committing built in, instead of generating from scratch.

Figma Make, the AI app-building tool inside [Figma](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/figma>), now works with an existing codebase instead of only generating new projects from scratch.

- Bring in your own codebase to build on top of it.

- Make precise, targeted code edits rather than regenerating whole files.

- Branch, commit, and ship changes from within Make.

The [announcement](<https://x.com/i/status/2060099693464478054>) frames this as bringing Make closer to a standard developer workflow, with version control built in.
