# Clone strength for v4 voices

By Steven Van · 2026-10-26

The new 0 to 1 setting for v4 Professional Voice Clones replaces the deprecated use\_pvc\_as\_ivc flag on Text to Dialogue requests.

Text to Speech and Text to Dialogue requests on [ElevenLabs](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/elevenlabs>) now accept a clone\_strength value from 0 to 1. It controls how closely a Professional Voice Clone (PVC) fine-tuned for a v4 model follows its training samples, according to the [API documentation](<https://elevenlabs.io/docs/api-reference/text-to-dialogue/convert>).

## Where to set it

On Create speech, clone\_strength goes in voice\_settings. On Create dialogue, it goes in settings. ElevenLabs recommends a value of 0 for most use cases.

## Change to Text to Dialogue

On the Text to Dialogue endpoints, clone\_strength now decides whether a v4 PVC runs as a PVC or as an Instant Voice Clone (IVC). The use\_pvc\_as\_ivc parameter is deprecated as a result.
