# draw.io can fill diagram shapes from a Google Sheet

By Steven Van · 2026-10-27

Data sources need a link-shared Google Sheet and are refreshed by hand, and the desktop app cannot load them.

Shape data in [draw.io](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/drawio>) can now come from a Google Sheet, with [data sources](<https://x.com/drawio/status/2115081081875804463>) added on October 27.

## How it works

A link-shared Google Sheet is pasted in from Page Setup. After picking the columns to use, each shape receives the data from one row of the sheet.

## Limits

- Refresh is manual. Changes made in the sheet do not update the diagram on their own.

- The desktop app cannot load data sources.
