# ComfyUI's MCP server now runs locally, open source

By Steven Van · 2026-08-18

The local server gives an agent access to every node, custom or not, and every model already on disk.

[ComfyUI](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/comfyui>)'s MCP server is now local and open source, following [Comfy Cloud MCP](<https://x.com/i/status/2089757488153592056>), which shipped in June. Running it locally means an agent works against your actual install: every node, including custom ones, and every model you have on disk. It can fetch files, start your ComfyUI instance, and build a workflow to the point where it runs.
