# Codex adopts new Agent Plugins standard with AWS, Cursor, GitHub

By Steven Van · 2026-08-06

Plugins built to the standard now work across Codex and other compatible clients without rebuilding.

OpenAI introduced **Agent Plugins**, an open standard for packaging Agent Skills and MCP server configurations so a plugin built once can run across compatible clients. The standard was developed jointly with AWS, Cursor, GitHub, VS Code, and Vercel, and applies to [Codex](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/openai-codex>) along with those other tools.

For creators building on Codex, this means a plugin no longer has to be rebuilt for each agent client it needs to support. See the [announcement](<https://x.com/i/status/2085398373511918022>) for details.
