# Codex adds a workflow importer for switching from other coding tools

By Steven Van · 2026-05-02

The ChatGPT app can now scan existing agent configs and migrate settings, plugins, and project setup into Codex.

OpenAI has released a workflow importer for [Codex](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/openai-codex>) that copies settings, plugins, agents, and project config over from other coding tools.

The import runs through the ChatGPT app: install it, then either complete the agent import flow during onboarding or go to Settings → General and press "Import agent setup." Codex mode scans for existing configuration from other agents, builds a checklist of the global and project-level config, skills, plugins, and other settings it finds, and opens a chat to guide the migration. Once it's done, opening the project in Codex picks up where the previous setup left off.
