# Claude joins Slack channels as a shared team member

By Steven Van · 2026-06-23

Claude Tag, in beta for Enterprise and Team plans, replaces the Claude in Slack app within 30 days of opt-in.

[Claude](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/claude>) can now join Slack as a team member rather than a single chat window: type **@Claude** in a channel to hand it a task while the team works on other things. The feature, called [Claude Tag](<https://www.anthropic.com/news/introducing-claude-tag>), launched in beta on 23 June 2026.

- Admins grant Claude access to specific Slack channels, plus whichever tools, data and codebases they choose. Within a channel there's one Claude that everyone interacts with, so anyone can see what it's working on and pick up where the last person left off.

- Claude builds context from the channels it's in over time, and, if permitted, from other channels and data sources (it does not report from private channels), so people don't have to re-explain background each time.

- With "ambient" behaviour turned on, Claude proactively flags relevant updates and follows up on threads or tasks that have gone quiet. It also works asynchronously, scheduling and pursuing tasks over hours or days, and can be messaged directly for private replies using personal tools and connectors.

- Admins can set token spend limits, both organisation-wide and per channel, and can view a log of every task Claude has run and who requested it.

Claude Tag runs on Opus 4.8 and is available now for Claude Enterprise and Team customers. It replaces the existing Claude in Slack app; admins have 30 days to opt in and migrate. Anthropic is issuing an introductory launch credit to eligible Enterprise and Team organisations.
