Anthropic retrained the safety classifier so routine health and clinical biology questions stay on Fable 5 instead of dropping to Opus 5.

Anthropic has updated the biology safety classifiers in [Claude](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/claude>) Fable 5, cutting biology-related fallbacks to the less capable Opus 5 model by about 85% across its product surfaces. Anthropic says this should mean far fewer everyday health and educational biology questions, such as interpreting lab results or understanding symptoms, get redirected, and that healthcare professionals should see more support from Fable 5 on clinical tasks.

Fable 5 still falls back to Opus 5 for dual-use areas including virology, toxicology, and molecular design, so it remains unsuited to professional biology research and drug development. Anthropic says it rewrote the classifier's rules with input from internal and external experts and retrained it to better distinguish benign biology queries from dual-use ones, without changing what counts as clearly harmful or dual-use content.
