# Claude Code 2.1.289

The release fixes permission checks and plugin loading, speeds up large file views and rolls back a VSCode change linked to frequent sign-outs.

Permission checks, terminal freezes and plugin loading are among the fixes in [Claude Code](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/claude-code>) 2.1.289. The [release notes](<https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md#21289>) also cover a VSCode authentication rollback and faster opening of large files in plugin code panes.

## Permission rules and managed settings

- On managed machines, deny or ask rules on nested parts of compound shell commands now hold over approvals from user-installed mods.

- Read deny rules now apply to files referenced with @ mentions, changed or selected in the IDE through a symlink.

- User-installed plugins can no longer rewrite the descriptions of an organization-managed MCP server’s sign-in tools.

## Plugin loading and display

The plugin list, eval and update commands now avoid showing stale copies of plugins installed from local folder marketplaces. The release also fixes hot reload for a symlinked --plugin-dir and installed mods failing to load in the first session after an upgrade.

Large files open faster in plugin code panes by laying out the highlighted view once at its final width. Other fixes address stale plugin rows above the prompt while the Background tasks dialog is open in fullscreen, and blank plugin panes when links use localhost addresses, an @ in the path, uppercase hosts or file: paths.

## Terminal stability and VSCode sign-ins

The update fixes terminal freezes caused by short code blocks containing many unclosed tags or deeply nested ${ substitutions. In VSCode, it reverts a 2.1.288 change to claude auth status that may have made sign-outs more frequent.
