Added the optional CLAUDE\_CODE\_PROJECT\_DIR\_NAME environment variable: hosts that give each session its own config directory can choose a short name…

[Claude Code](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/claude-code>) 2.1.234, released 17 August 2026, adds a GitLab merge request badge, automatic session continuation, and several fixes, detailed in the [changelog](<https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md#21234>).

- A new **CLAUDE\_CODE\_PROJECT\_DIR\_NAME** environment variable lets hosts that give each session its own config directory choose a short name for the per-project transcript directory.

- A **selection:clear** keybinding action can now be bound to a key to clear an in-app text selection, including in the agents view.

- Repos with a GitLab remote and an authenticated glab CLI now show a merge request badge, MR !N with draft, pending or green states, in the footer and statusline.

- Claude Code now continues a session automatically when a claude.ai usage limit resets. This can be turned off in /config under "Continue automatically at usage limit".

- Claude is now told to use the account email only to identify the user, not to send it to unrelated services unless asked.

- Remote file reads, session restore, CLAUDE.md includes, workflow scripts and file uploads now reject Windows NT-namespace (\\??\\) paths, hardening pre-approval file access checks against the NTLM credential-leak vector.

- Fixed a bug where auto mode in very long sessions repeatedly re-checked and denied sandboxed commands' network access after the conversation had been compacted.
