Anthropic says the new small model costs around 75% less to run on average than Haiku 4.5 and is its fastest model at standard speed, though Opus models in Fast Mode run faster. ## Adjustable effort and subagent work Haiku 5.5 is the first Haiku model with an adjustable effort setting, letting users choose whether to optimise for cost or intelligence. It can handle narrowly scoped coding tasks as a subagent alongside Opus 5.5 or Sonnet 5.5, and is designed for speed-sensitive work such as live customer support and browser use. Anthropic still recommends the larger models for complex agentic coding tasks. ## Pricing by prompt size For prompts up to 100,000 tokens, Haiku 5.5 costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens. Cache reads cost $0.01 and cache writes cost $0.125 per million tokens. For prompts over that threshold, each rate is five times higher. Those rates are 90% below Haiku 4.5 for requests up to 100,000 tokens and 50% below for larger requests. Anthropic’s estimate of 75% lower running costs also accounts for the updated tokenizer, which uses slightly more tokens per task. ## Available now Haiku 5.5 is available now on all platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure.
