# Cap v0.6 Is Here

Cap v0.6 brings a redesigned editor, 3D scenes, animated text, moving backgrounds, Studio Sound, camera cutouts, faster exports, and a preview of a native GPUI app.

[Cap](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/cap-screen>), the open source screen recording and sharing app, has released v0.6, which the team calls its biggest release so far and the one that makes Cap feel like a real video editor rather than just a screen recorder.

The editor has been rebuilt from the timeline up with a new crop tool, inspector, dedicated text and 3D panels, a track picker, and an export screen that shows measured file size and export time before you commit. You can also record straight into a project you already have open, and the timeline adds ruler scrubbing, a minimap, snapping cuts, and multi-select zooms. Cap v0.6 is available at cap.so/download, and existing installs update on their own.

- 3D scenes: every recording gets a 3D track with automatic camera shots, perspective, easing, and focus blur, or build your own shots with orbit controls.

- Animated text and full-screen cards using any installed font, with presets, enter and exit animations, and cards that pause the recording underneath.

- Moving animated gradient backgrounds, separate color correction for screen and camera, device and browser frames, cursor effects, and style and image tracks.

- Studio Sound removes microphone background noise with Light, Balanced, or Strong isolation, and camera cutouts remove the camera background entirely on macOS.

- A sturdier recorder with recording recovery, low storage warnings, device reconnection, and Linux DEB, RPM, AppImage, and Arch packages.

- A first look at a new native app written in Rust on GPUI, available as an optional preview under Settings &gt; Experimental, with 17.5% CPU and 440 MiB memory in playback versus 76.6% and 3,724 MiB in the classic app.
