# Bitrig builds CarPlay apps in its own simulator

By Steven Van · 2026-10-27

Bitrig's simulator runs CarPlay apps without an entitlement, but Xcode's simulator and real cars still need one and a paid Apple Developer account.

Bitrig can now build CarPlay apps and test them in its own simulator, with no CarPlay entitlement needed. The [Bitrig](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/bitrig>) Mac app lets a user design a CarPlay app and run it without applying to Apple first, according to the [announcement on X](<https://x.com/bitrig/status/2115126206962233537>).

## Where the entitlement is still required

The exemption applies only to Bitrig's simulator. Xcode's simulator and a real car both still require the CarPlay entitlement and a paid Apple Developer account. An app designed in Bitrig can be tested without the entitlement, but it cannot be run in a car without one.
