# Check a YouTube talk before you watch it

By Steven Van · 2026-09-27

Bearly's chat turns a YouTube link into a card with a watch-or-skip verdict, key moments and a claim checker, on every plan, web and desktop.

Send a YouTube link in a chat on [Bearly.ai](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/bearly>) and the reply now opens the video in a card. The card has the player, a verdict on whether it is worth watching, key moments on a timeline, and shorter cuts of the essential parts. The feature was [announced on the Bearly blog](<https://bearly.ai/blog/check-a-youtube-talk-before-you-watch-it>).

## What the card shows

- **Verdict:** Watch, Skim or Skip, with a one-line reason. A title check appears when the title promises more than the video delivers.

- **Key moments:** drawn on a timeline over YouTube's most-replayed curve when the video has one. Clicking a moment jumps the player there.

- **Shorter cuts:** choosing 5 min runs the essential stretches back to back. A length is offered only when the video is long enough for it.

## Tabs

- **Summary:** chapters, each time linking into the player.

- **Insights:** the takeaways. When Bearly can read the captions, each comes with a quote checked word for word against the transcript, and a takeaway whose quote isn't there is dropped.

- **Community:** a summary of the top comments: what people agree on, push back on and correct, and the tips they add.

- **Mentioned:** papers, books, code repositories and tools the video names, each with the second it came up. Find looks one up and shows a result only if it names the work exactly as the speaker said it (and the author, if one was given). Otherwise it says No match found.

- **Transcript:** searchable, when Bearly has one.

- **Steps:** on how-to videos, the steps and any commands, ready to copy.

Questions in the chat are answered from the transcript when there is one, and from the summary otherwise. Asking for "just the part about charging" returns a cut of that section.

## When captions can't be read

For most videos Bearly can't read the captions, so it watches the video instead. The summary, takeaways and Mentioned list then come from watching. The card says times are approximate and names may be misheard, and takeaways have no quotes. Videos longer than 90 minutes are summarized from their first 90 minutes. Without a transcript there is no Check claims.

In an up-to-date desktop app, the Transcript tab of such a card offers Get transcript, which reads the captions over the user's own connection and saves them to the chat's files. The transcript and Check claims then appear on the card, on the web too.

## Check claims

With a transcript, Check claims (at the top of Insights) opens a Claims tab listing up to 40 figures the talk states, such as statistics, amounts, counts and dates, each pinned to the second it is said. One press checks 12, and Check N more checks the next 12. For each figure Bearly searches the web and counts the sites that give the same figure or a different one, with labels such as Matched by 3 sites, Split · 2 match, 1 differs, or Not found in 5 results.

Bearly does not say whether a figure is true, and not found does not mean wrong. Each row shows the sentence from the talk and each source's words, with links. If the video has only automatic captions, the check says so. Results are saved to the chat, so they persist after a reload and on other devices.

## Availability

The card works on every plan, in the web and desktop apps. Typing /youtube requests it for that message. Open on YouTube is always on the card, since some uploaders block playback elsewhere. Copy on the reply copies the card as text with each time linked to that second on YouTube, and the Claims tab has its own Copy.

Reading a video, Find and Check claims all use plan allowance. When the allowance runs out, Find and Check claims turn off, and Bearly can't summarize a new video whose captions it couldn't read. Team admins can disable the feature with the YouTube policy, and it is off whenever Web is. Check claims and Find also need Chat web search; with it off, Find can still look up papers when Scholar is on.
