# New template categories, and smarter ranking

By Steven Van · 2026-09-22

Templates are now grouped as Apps or Websites with extra categories, and ranking counts real usage instead of only how often a template was cloned.

Base44 has split its template gallery into two top-level groups, Apps and Websites, with more categories under each. The change is meant to make it easier to find the right template. Ranking has changed too: it now takes into account how people actually use a template, not just how many times it was cloned. The change was listed in the [Base44 product changelog](<https://docs.base44.com/changelog/product#september-22-2026>) for 22 September 2026.
