# Keep working on an app with a protected main branch

Base44's AI chat now offers to open a branch for any change requested on a protected main.

When an app's main branch on [Base44](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/base44>) is protected, the AI chat still answers questions and reads the app's code. Ask for a change and it offers to create a branch instead, then carries the request into it, as described in the [branches documentation](<https://docs.base44.com/Building-your-app/working-with-branches>).
