# Claude Sonnet 5 and Opus 5

By Steven Van · 2026-09-05

Base44's automatic mode now routes ongoing work and image turns to Sonnet 5, and first messages to Opus 5 on eligible plans.

[Base44](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/base44>)'s AI chat picks up **Claude Sonnet 5** and **Claude Opus 5**, described in the [September 5 changelog](<https://docs.base44.com/changelog/product#september-5-2026>). In automatic mode, Sonnet 5 handles ongoing work, planning, and any turn that involves images, while Opus 5 takes the first message on plans that don't use cost-saving models.

An app that names an older Claude model in its code keeps working as before, and now shows that model's readable name instead of the code name.
