# Ask questions on a merged branch

By Steven Van · 2026-10-17

Closing the read-only notice on a merged Base44 branch opens Discuss mode, so you can ask about its code without editing anything.

On a merged branch in [Base44](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/base44>), closing the read-only notice now opens the message box in Discuss mode. You can ask about that branch's code without changing anything.

## How merged branches behave

A merged branch's code is read-only. Its chat stays readable, and the AI can still answer questions about it in Discuss mode. The branch menu shows a Merged status for these branches. The [Working with branches](<https://docs.base44.com/Building-your-app/working-with-branches>) documentation describes this behaviour.

## About branches

Each branch has its own chat, live preview and version history. It can be merged into main when the work is ready.
