# We've added capabilities.server\_tools to the Models API

Separate fields distinguish code execution tool support from the ability of running code to call other tools.

Developers can now check whether a model accepts web search or code execution through [Anthropic](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/tools/anthropic>)'s Models API. Responses from GET /v1/models and GET /v1/models/{model\_id} include the new capabilities.server\_tools object.

## Checking tool support

Read capabilities.server\_tools.web\_search.supported or capabilities.server\_tools.code\_execution.supported to check each tool. A true value means the model accepts at least one version of that tool, not necessarily every version. The overall capabilities.server\_tools.supported value is true when either tool is accepted.

The checks do not cover other server tools, such as web fetch. Organization settings can still cause a supported tool request to fail, for example if an administrator has disabled web search.

## Code execution has two separate checks

The top-level capabilities.code\_execution.supported field reports whether code running in Claude's code execution tool can call the request's other tools. It does not report whether the model accepts the code execution tool itself.

For example, Claude Haiku 4.5 reports server\_tools.code\_execution.supported as true but code\_execution.supported as false. The [Models API documentation](<https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/models/overview#using-the-models-api>) explains the distinction.
