# Illustrator adds Generative Expand and one-click background removal By Steven Van · 2026-05-28 Version 30.4 also lets Text to Vector Graphic output be edited directly and adds Mojikumi and Kinsoku presets for Japanese typography. Illustrator 30.4 adds **Generative Expand**, which extends an image beyond its original boundaries and blends the new content with the existing image, useful for fitting a visual to a different aspect ratio without cropping. A new **Remove Background** tool isolates a subject with one click for a transparent-background image. Text generated with Text to Vector Graphic can now be edited directly in the artwork, without converting it to outlines or regenerating the asset. That tool also gains style reference support for images from a browser or device, so outputs can better match an intended style. Japanese typography gets new Mojikumi and Kinsoku presets, including BetaGumi and TsumeGumi, for finer control over spacing, punctuation, and line breaks. The release also includes stability improvements and bug fixes across text handling, SVG export, Smart Guides, cloud documents, keyboard shortcuts, and graphic styles.
