# After Effects beta pastes Illustrator and SVG art as shape layers

The After Effects beta now lets [you paste Illustrator or SVG artwork](<https://community.adobe.com/announcements-532/new-in-beta-copy-and-paste-illustrator-and-svg-content-as-native-shape-layers-26-3x51-1558094>) directly as native shape layers. Paths stay editable, with no separate conversion step.

When copying from Illustrator, enable “Include SVG Code” in Clipboard Handling preferences. Convert SVG text to curves before pasting. Animated or raster SVGs aren't supported, and pasting After Effects shape layers back into Illustrator doesn't currently work.
