# Gamma 5 agent: generate and edit through the API

Gamma’s API can now [use its agent](<https://developers.gamma.app/reference/changelog#gamma-5-agent-generate-and-edit-through-the-api>) to build a gamma from a prompt or edit an existing one from a natural-language instruction.

For generation, you can start from a workspace template, an existing gamma, or an official Explore template. Edits run asynchronously, so you poll for the result. Both endpoints are priced by the work the agent does.

The MCP server also exposes editing through edit\_gamma and get\_edit\_status, and the ChatGPT and Claude connectors can now edit existing gammas.
