# Key Presets and Custom Policies

fal now lets [you create keys](<https://docs.fal.ai/changelog#october-9-2026>) with permission presets or an exact selection of permissions, replacing the ADMIN and API scopes for new keys.

Choose API, SERVERLESS, DEPLOY, COMPUTE, BILLING, READONLY or FULL, or build a custom policy. You can also restrict a key to specific models and set an expiration.

Preset keys follow their preset's live definition. Custom policy keys keep the permissions they had at creation. Adding a model limit to a preset makes it a custom policy key, so those permissions stay fixed too.

Existing ADMIN and API keys continue to work.
