# Reduce Claude Code token usage: what actually works

[Graphify](<https://creatorstoolbox.com/products/graphify>) published a [guide to cutting Claude Code token usage](<https://graphify.com/blog/reduce-claude-code-token-usage>), starting with the context you carry between tasks.

Run /context to see what’s taking up space. Use /clear between unrelated tasks, keep CLAUDE.md short, move task-specific instructions into skills, and disable unused servers with /mcp.

For questions spanning a large, unfamiliar repo, Graphify adds a code graph Claude can query to find connected files and functions. [The setup includes graphify claude install](<https://graphify.com/integrations/claude-code>), which adds instructions and hooks that steer Claude toward the graph.

The guide says this won’t help with small repos or single-file edits, and the public tests it cites have mixed results. Its recommendation is to compare /usage on your own cross-file tasks with and without the graph.
