# VEED releases OpenEdit, an open source video editor for coding agents

VEED's OpenEdit lets [coding agents such](<https://x.com/veedstudio/status/2084602908331647471>) as Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI caption footage and render MP4s locally. Install it with npx skills add veedstudio/open-edit, then ask your agent to edit a video.

The beta focuses on captions; motion graphics and branded styling are less polished. It currently runs only on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 26.

The editor is Apache-2.0, but VEED Engine, its renderer, uses closed source binaries under PolyForm Shield 1.0.0. That license allows commercial video creation but restricts competing products built on the renderer. Default transcription requires a free veed.io account and uploads audio; you can switch to WhisperX for local transcription.
