Vercel Blob is now generally available: Cost-efficient, durable storage

By Steven Van ·

Vercel's S3-backed object storage exits beta with private and public access modes, 19 regions, and a cheaper transfer tier for large files.

Vercel Blob, the company's Amazon S3-backed object storage service, is now generally available on all plans for accounts with the owner, member, or developer role. It's already storing and serving over 400 million files and powers production apps including v0 and the Vercel Dashboard.

Blob stores are created with either private access, which requires an authenticated token to read, or public access, where anyone with the URL can reach the file directly. Stores can be created in any of 19 regions, connected to multiple projects, and one project can draw on multiple stores.

  • Storage is rated for 99.999999999% durability, backed by Amazon S3.
  • Delivery runs through automated caching integrated with Vercel's application delivery network.
  • A new Blob Data Transfer option uses 20 volume-optimized hubs for large files, separate from the 94-city, latency-optimized Fast Data Transfer network, and Vercel says it's on average 3x more cost-efficient for large assets.
