Give any model a terminal and files

OpenRouter's shell server tool gives any model on the platform a hosted Linux terminal. Its Files API lets you upload inputs and download files the model produces.

Commands run in an isolated container and return stdout, stderr, and exit codes to the model. Containers have no outbound network access by default; you can allowlist domains for tasks such as installing packages.

The tools are available in beta on the Responses and Messages APIs. Sandbox time costs $0.0001 per second, including Files API usage. Containers accept up to 20 input files, and container files are kept for 30 days unless promoted into permanent workspace storage.
