Simplifying runtime caching on Vercel

Vercel is merging Data Cache into Runtime Cache. Next.js fetch caching and unstable_cache carry over without code changes. Pro projects get separate storage allocations for each environment with 8x the previous space, and Enterprise projects get 10x.

The billing change matters: previously unbilled Data Cache reads and writes become charged usage after migration. Regional rates start at $0.40 per million read units and $4.00 per million write units. Hobby includes 1 million read units and 200,000 write units monthly across all projects. Pro usage draws from its $20 monthly infrastructure credit; Enterprise pricing goes through account teams.

Teams created from October 30, 2026 use Runtime Cache by default. Existing Hobby teams migrate November 29, 2026. Pro teams will receive their migration and billing dates, and Enterprise customers will hear from their account teams.

Existing Hobby and Pro teams can opt in through CDN settings from October 30, with pricing taking effect immediately. Check Data Cache usage in Observability before switching.
