VEED releases OpenEdit, an open source video editor for coding agents

VEED's OpenEdit lets coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI caption footage and render MP4s locally. Install it with npx skills add veedstudio/open-edit, then ask your agent to edit a video.

The beta focuses on captions; motion graphics and branded styling are less polished. It currently runs only on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 26.

The editor is Apache-2.0, but VEED Engine, its renderer, uses closed source binaries under PolyForm Shield 1.0.0. That license allows commercial video creation but restricts competing products built on the renderer. Default transcription requires a free veed.io account and uploads audio; you can switch to WhisperX for local transcription.
