Hierarchical budgets: manage AI spend the way your company is organized
Devin added hierarchical budgets for Enterprise accounts, so ACU spending can follow your org chart.
Each enterprise has one Account budget at the root, with child budgets under it up to three levels deep. A budget can hold one org or several, and each org belongs to exactly one budget. Every budget has a monthly ACU limit that covers everything under it, an optional temporary limit that lasts until the end of the current window, and its own user limits, including tiers and per-user overrides.
The main change is delegation. An admin can give a department head control over their own branch. In Devin's example, Alice in Central IT sets each department's total. Bob, who runs Engineering, can then create child budgets, set limits, and manage user tiers under Engineering. He can also approve a temporary bump, such as raising Payments from 10,000 to 15,000 ACUs for the month. Bob only sees Engineering and its children, and the group stays within its combined 30,000 ACU limit. If Engineering needs more, he files a request with Alice.
The other example is a dedicated pool for a project. A 5,000 ACU "Security hardening" budget sits next to a "Developer tools" budget with a 200 ACU default tier. A developer with access to both can use up to 1,000 ACUs on the hardening work and 200 on everyday tasks. That keeps project spend separate, so it can be attributed and audited, and the hardening budget uses efficiency-based approvals.
